EFM Week 1

I probably won't do this every week, but I wanted to give an update to anyone who cares about how the first week of EFM went. Let me start out by saying CHAOS. It is crazy, it is chaotic, and it is AMAZING. I got there way earlier than usual, around 4. I put together a bulletin board, made some copies, and wrote some things on *OUR* board.
I don't know if you understand the meanings behind the *OUR*. The first meaning is that our board as in, OUR room, as in WE DON'T HAVE TO SHARE. I have been teaching at EFM for 3 solid years, this is my fourth, and I have never had my own room. While there used to be a school, it was closed for some different reasons last May, and so now I have my own classroom to use as I want. Before I would have to bring everything I'd need for my lesson every week, I couldn't write on the boards for fear of erasing something the teachers had written, and I had to make sure the room was perfectly neat and like we had never been there when we left. This year I can leave papers on the desk. I can leave writing on the board. I don't have to pick up the pieces of paper on the floor unless I want to (but let's be honest, I will because it'll bother me). Okay that's the first meaning of *OUR* board. The second is this. *OUR*. As in, more than me. As in, me, Mrs. Dee Temple, and two of my sweet friends, Samantha and Mac. What an absolute blessing it is to have the three of them there. It is so helpful to not just be the only one in charge (been there, done that). They were so kind to these kids and it's easy to see that they love them as much as I do. This was Sam's first week with us, and she was SO good with those kids. I am so thankful for her heart and for her feeling that the Lord was calling her to come be with us. I can't wait to continue the year with these three, and with who else the Lord brings to us.
With that being said, let me say how the actual night went. My class had 19 and overall we had around 50-55 students. Considering it's the first week, that's actually a pretty high number. We normally are pretty small the first two-three weeks and grow as the year continues on. The lesson itself went pretty well, as well as the activities afterward. There were the usual first-week problems, but those will right themselves as we continue on.
Even though I have been there for a while, it still caught me off-guard how wide the age range of my class is. I had four 5 year olds and three 9 year olds, and twelve in between. There is a big difference between a five year old and a nine year old. During the lesson I was constantly trying to go back and forth between the understanding of both, and I don't really know how I did that but most of them understood the lesson for the most part. Ideally I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have some more volunteers come in so we could split my class up. I personally think that having a 5-6 year old class and a 7-9 year old class would be what was best, but as of right now we don't have the people to do that. Yes,  I do have three other AWESOME teachers who are with me. But due to some things out of my control (and theirs), none of them are quite able to fully commit to being the head teacher all the time. I have hope that God will provide, either through them or someone else, a person who is able to teach full time with me.
With all that being said, please pray for the 19 in my class so far. There will no doubt be more (:. Also pray that God would send someone to us. If you're interested, please please call me or text me or Facebook me. I would love to have you come and maybe observe a class one Tuesday night to see if you're interested.
Thanks for reading. I'm excited for this year and where it will take me at EFM.
