Walking with a Purpose
So far while I've been at college I've learned several things about myself.
1. some days require two cups of coffee, some just one.
2. it's not a good idea to study in bed because I will more than likely fall asleep
3. I walk really REALLY fast.
Okay so going to the third thing, I've always been a power walker, but it wasn't until I got here that I realized just how fast I walked.
At West Florence, I began walking very fast to get from class to class because my classes were usually pretty far apart….. and I just never stopped fast walking.
One afternoon at church I was walking in, and Taiter (aka the best youth worker ever) yelled out after me "Alana, you are walking with a purpose girl!"
I had never thought of it like that before, but it totally made sense.
I HATE slow walking. If I'm walking, it's because I have somewhere to be, so why in the world would I take my time getting there?
I walk with a purpose, I'm headed somewhere to do something.
And then last week, as I'm laying in bed thinking of all these things I need to accomplish the phrase "Walking with a purpose" just appears in my head and I realized this huge spiritual reference.
Isn't my goal on earth to walk with a purpose?
If I claim to be a Christian, which I do, isn't my goal to walk with a Christian purpose?
To make the years I have on earth count? To give all the glory to God that I can?
Are we not called to be the salt of the earth, and the light of the world?
So that's my challenge to you, on this Tuesday afternoon.
To walk with a purpose.
God says to do everything to the glory of Him.
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether that is by really striving to work hard in my class, or making sure to show love to the people on my hall, or maybe it's by putting that extra effort in your job or not losing patience with your kids.
Whatever it is for you, I hope that you can walk with a purpose today.
Don't let your salt lose it's saltiness. Don't let your light be hidden.
Maybe this makes no sense at all. I hope it does.
It just absolutely amazes me that the Creator of the world loves me enough to die for me.
He wants to see me grow in Him, and to serve Him.
So I want to walk with a purpose for Him.
I have a lot going on right now. Between school, and sorority things, and other things my life is crazy. And while I'm striving to be the best I can be in these things, I'm constantly reminding myself that these things on earth will fade. But what will last? The things that I am walking with a purpose for.
Maybe this doesn't affect you at all. Maybe this is something you really needed to hear today. I'm not sure. But I hope you understand what I'm saying.
Thanks for reading. I'm going to fast walk to my next class.

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 5: 13-17
Shouldn't we all walk with a purpose, the purpose to share Jesus with everyone we can and to serve Him with all that we have?So that's my challenge to you, on this Tuesday afternoon.
